same as it ever was
Sock #1 of the Baudelaires are almost done. For some reason, even though I have the pattern pretty much memorized, actually doing the work is kicking my arse. Of course, I probably would be done with Sock #1 if it weren’t for the fact that we’ve been frantically cleaning the house.
Some of the folks who read this might be wondering…is this a day-to-day blog, a knitting blog, a diet blog, or what?! The answer is…a bit of all of the above. I’ve tried to keep things separate…and it’s a pain in the keister. Basically, whatever goes through my brain will eventually make it here in some way, shape or form. I kinda like that. Makes things more organic.
Anyhow, the big poop on what’s been going on around here…
I’m still knitting, but it’s taking a backseat to the domestic arts. Why all the cleaning? Apparently there’s a realtor coming into the house this weekend to give an estimate. We aren’t the owners — we rent from family. He’s thinking of buying another (more expensive) house, so he’s thinking of selling either this one or both of his current properties. We’re kinda hoping he keeps this one as a rental property & sells his other house. Because…g’damn. We’re paying down our debts right now, and once that’s done, we’ll be beefing up the House Downpayment Fund. If he decides to sell this place… we’ll either be looking for another rental (likely at a higher amount per month) or a mortgage (which would be easier to afford if we had a better downpayment).
So the cleaning is for the benefit of our landlord, my cousin, so that he doesn’t think we live like absolute heathens. Which, sometimes, isn’t far off the mark.
Trying to clean up the diet and stick to it. I’m realizing that I have a real angel/devil thing going on. I’ll do well for a few months, then absolutely fall off the wagon. Sugar binge. Then I’ll be quasi-good for a few months…then we totally forget about the Trying To Eat Well thing. This time I’m catching it before I gain back all that was lost last year. I’m not all the way back up there, but I’m almost halfway. Time to nip it in the bud. I’m impressed that I not only lost weight last year, but I did it at the same time I was giving up smoking. That’s pretty impressive. This time, it’s a year later, and I really want to get my scale numbers to move down.
I’ll admit that our current housing situation being up in the air doesn’t really help, but I’m trying not to worry about it too much. If we have to move, we’ll move. We’ll figure out whether it’s a mortgage or a rental when we have the final word. Hopefully the cousin will give us adequate time to plan.
