I will be recommitting to my chosen way of eating (and weight loss) on Sunday, 27-Jan-08. Back to low-carbing instead of dicking around with various methods, trying to find the best one. I think I’ve figured out what works.
Only currently foreseeable deviation will be 1 day in February when I will be having sushi and cheesecake. Baked cheesecake. The jury is still out as to what kind of baked cheesecake it will be, but it will be cheesecake, and it will be baked.

I’m beginning to think that the office is seriously trying to make us fat. If we can’t move to get away, maybe we’ll take more calls, right? It started off with “healthy snack day” on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I can get behind the sentiment, even if the execution sucks. I’ve expounded on this before, but it bears repeating. Breakfast bars, fruit bars, oranges, apples, and “low fat” yogurt. Of course, “low fat” means “added sugar”. All of the “healthy snacks” are loaded with sugar, even if the real fruit has added fibre.

…of having to wind the next ball of yarn!
I’ve now happily spent the majority of my evening re-winding balls of yarn. It makes me a very happy camper. As nice as it may seem to be frugal and hand-wind one’s yarn, the time savings is phenomenal. I re-wound the Evil Cotton Yarn…even managed to quickly re-partition it into fairly even balls. I re-wound at least 4 other skeins. And the alpaca laceweight….AND a ball of larger gauge (scarf weight) yarn.
Very happy camper, indeedy. Yep.

Sock #1 of the Baudelaires are almost done. For some reason, even though I have the pattern pretty much memorized, actually doing the work is kicking my arse. Of course, I probably would be done with Sock #1 if it weren’t for the fact that we’ve been frantically cleaning the house.
Some of the folks who read this might be wondering…is this a day-to-day blog, a knitting blog, a diet blog, or what?! The answer is…a bit of all of the above. I’ve tried to keep things separate…and it’s a pain in the keister. Basically, whatever goes through my brain will eventually make it here in some way, shape or form. I kinda like that. Makes things more organic.

- The house is getting cleaned. A surface clean done by next weekend, and a deep clean as we go forwards. Goodwill is gonna love me.
- The weight…is going DOWN. Bye bye sugar. My tastebuds will miss you, but my thighs will not. Sorry, GI Diet, but grains and I really don’t agree. I love them and they hate me. Hello low-carb once more (Low-Carb treats me much better, anyhow. Particularly at this time of year when my headaches go crazy).
- Socks will be knit. Many socks will be knit. I will be going crazy, so there will be much in the way of sock knitting.
- One more toon will be going to 70. Eventually. That’s the one thing I’m willing to relax on a bit. It’s not crucial.

So, I’ve spent the majority of the past week enjoying a semi-low-glycemic diet. And my body is rebelling. Weight up, weight down, back up, and….holding…holding….back up!
Gah.
Not only that, but I’m headachey. Migraines are normal for me during the weather shifts of January, but this is just annoying. My knees are good one day, bad the next, and it’s also starting to annoy me.
I think that while I won’t restrict Robin to giving up whole grains and skim milk, I’ll be heading back to controlling my carbohydrates. He can choose to eat however he feels is healthy. I think that while I’m enjoying oatmeal (not the instant kind, either), I may have to make the sacrifice for my mental and physical well-being. Maybe in the maintenance phases.

You pretty well have to have a bit of background in World of Warcraft to understand this one. I just had to link it. Amazing what happens when the Quebecois give a treatise on PVP

The Regia Cotton disaster has gone back to the frog pond. I ripped one all the way back & tried to recast on my size 0 needles…and it just doesn’t look right. The stitches are too small, and it makes it hard to work with. I may recast on with the size 1 needles, but do a very plain top-down sock. Maybe a top-down Jaywalker…but for now I need a break from it.
Hence…Baudelaire. One of the KALs (knitalongs for you non-knitters) I participate in on Ravelry has a theme this month of either an intarsia sock or a sock by Cookie A. Or you can do the Mystery Sockalong, which also uses intarsia. Since I’m not really one for intarsia, I’ve gone with a Cookie A. pattern.
My secret pal gave me the Gothic Spiral sock pattern, but I found that I didn’t have quite enough of the Louet Gems that I wanted to have. I’ve been wanting to play with Baudelaire for quite awhile, and it looks as though it’s now my chance. Again, like the toe-up Jaywalker, it’s a toe-up, heel-flap pattern. I just hope that I get the measurement right on the foot length. So far, the pattern itself is very pretty! I’m looking forward to seeing these ones finished.

Mmmkay. So. Picked up my stitches at least 2 or 3 inches back. Immediately began my increases. I’m back at the 7-inch mark. I’m about 1/3 of the way to where I need to be. It appears that even with “fingering weight” yarn and my trusty size 1 Addis…my gauge is shot. Shot to (pardonnez-moi mon francais) shit. This sock will need to be done on my size 0 needles. And as I’m not about to restart it right now, I guess that I’ll have to find another project to play with.
If I didn’t say it before, let me say it again: Kerfuckedy.
This yarn is cursed, I tell you. Cursed.

I think I mentioned that this is the 4th or 5th time I’ve cast on using this yarn, right? The picture over there? Is after 4 gusset increases. I stopped in the right place, started my increases in the right place…and the sock is too damned long.
What’s a girl to do? Pick up stitches farther back and begin the rip. Pisses me off…this means losing at least 4 inches of work. Per sock. Kerfuckedy!
Stoopid Regia Sock :( Better be worth it when they’re done, damnit!
(as an aside, I had myself some slow-cooked porridge for breakfast. OMG…that stuff sticks right with you! It’s been about 2 or 3 hours, and I’m holding in really well. This GI thing might actually work!)
