Stripey fun

I realized, as I was headed out the door to work on Monday evening, that I already had a pair of vanilla socks on the needles. Of course, that’s not going to stop me from knitting the grey-and-orangey-red socks, but they may not be finished as quickly as they might have been otherwise.

These are the socks that I cast on at the Henry Rollins spoken word event. I think I made it most of the way up the toe before we had to head home. Last night was putting the finishing touches on the leg and finishing off the cuff. Today I cast off sock #1 and cast on #2. I will admit that I’m enjoying the ridiculously bright and cheery stripe that manifested itself — as well as the weird and wacky pooling due to actually knitting a heel rather than putting it in afterwards.

I will admit that I didn’t have a lot of high hopes for this yarn, mainly because it was bought from a local yarn store that just seemed to be “phoning it in” towards the end. The proprietor didn’t seem interested in ordering new stock, and what stock I usually wound up buying would be so full of tangles that I’d usually end up winding the ball by hand. This skein was no exception. Sure, I brought the skein to work to wind by hand, but if it hadn’t been so incredibly tangled to being with, I wouldn’t have had to bring the yarn into the office with me to wind on my lunch break. It would have already been made into a yarn cake.

Store drama aside, the yarn (which I have never seen before or since) is working quite well for me. Makes for a very happy accident!
