Nine years already?

There’s a steak in the oven, and a salad to be put together, and then…time for a nice dinner. I’m thinking brie and crackers for dessert. The dessert is an indulgence, but indulgence is allright today.  Today is our anniversary.

Sometime around the 20th of September, 2002, Robin and I officially became a couple. I had to go back in the blog (password protected around that time) to confirm a few things because we both were a little fuzzy on the year. You can tell it’s been a long time when you’re trying to remember the current events around the time you started dating, particularly in the wake of the fuss around the 11th of the month since 2001.

In the past nine years, we’ve moved three times, adopted a bipolar cat, bought a house, taken up knitting (me) and cycling (him), and fallen off our diet(s) too many times to count.  We’ve welcomed two nephews (Milo and Jaxton), a niece (Georgia), a niece or nephew of current indeterminate gender (due any time now), and an honourary niece (Sarah). We’ve quit smoking together, and braved a couple of family road trips. Through it all, we’ve been surprised to feel like the one stable relationship in a sea of uncertainty and drama.  After nine years, I guess we’ve had practice.

The fun part is that there’s plenty more to experience together, and we’re looking forward to the next nine years…and the next nine…and probably the next eternity after that.

Thanks for nine years of adventure and excitement, sweetheart…on to making number ten even better yet!
