Hallowe’en Edition – The Sunday Post #2

Posted October 27, 2019 by Maire in meme, Whimsy / 7 Comments

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Thursday is Hallowe’en, my favourite day on the calendar. Hallowe’en, that is, not Thursday.

Thursday. What a concept

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at The Caffeinated Reviewer. You should check out her blog. And then check out the blogs of all the other awesome folks doing the Sunday Post. There are links. Lots and lots of links.

Prepping for Hallowe’en

I usually carve a couple of pumpkins every year. Last year I picked up a couple of foam cutting tools. They really do a great job on those hollow faux pumpkins from Michaels. At least, they do once you figure out how to use them.

I’m starting to feel my years, though. I don’t have as much energy right now for the finer details. I bought two real pumpkins, so I think a couple of simple designs will have to do. If you take a gander at the small pumpkin gallery below, you’ll see an example of the work I can do when the weather and the Advil co-operate.

The Husbeast is on vacation for the next two weeks, so we’ll see what we get up to. Usually we go for walks in the crisp Autumn air, or trips to the Zoo. It looks like Mother Nature has other ideas.

The weather around here is getting downright impulsive. Ten minutes ago we had sun. Then a low-vis flurry storm rolled in. Hallowe'en is less than a week away. Wacky.
The weather here is a wild ride.

Last week on the blog:

Monday: Review: Will my Cat Eat My Eyeballs? Big Questions from Tiny Mortals about Death
Tuesday: Top Ten Tuesday: Change a few book titles why don’t you?
Wednesday: WWBC: The Recommended Reading List
Thursday: Throwback Thursday to That Time I Knit a Sock and Read Hex
Friday: Friday Friday Friday
Saturday: Review: The Vine Witch by Luanne G. Smith
Holy heck, including the Sunday Post, that’s a whole week of updates!

Upcoming features:

Memes!
Hex Review
Pictures of pumpkins. It wouldn’t be Hallowe’en without pictures of pumpkins.

What I’m up to:

I’m currently reading Microphones & Murder by Erin Huss. I’m only around page 40 and still trying to figure out what I think about the book so far.

Stash Acquisition:

Book Cover: The Remaking by Clay McLeod Chapman

The Remaking: A Novel by Clay McLeod Chapman. Thank you to Quirk Books!

I may need to take a bit of a brain break and read a book for purely hedonistic purposes. Possibly the new J. D. Robb or Stephen King.

How’s everyone else’s week gone?

Those pumpkins are amazing! That’s some serious skill. We carved turnips as children, rather than pumpkins, but you can’t do anything like that with a turnip 😂

I hope you enjoy Hallowe’en and have a wonderful week!

    • Turnips are apparently the original OG for carving, so I have all the respect in the world.

When it comes to carving, I’m just really good at following a pattern. The ones that impress me are the sculptural style that use the depth of the cut and the thickness of the pumpkin wall to manipulate the shading in the design. 🙂

    • Yep. We have snow. It sometimes happens this early in Midwestern Canada. I am neither happy nor impressed with this turn of events. :-/
